I’d had the idea to write a disaster book about Y2K, but it never really came together. A few years later, I heard about the one and only time Michael Jackson and Princess Diana—the two most famous people on the planet—met at Wembley. After this meeting, they reportedly developed a close friendship and frequently talked on the phone for hours. I started wondering what it would be like to be a fly on the wall in historical moments like that. That thought, combined with the unfinished Y2K idea, is what became Timecode.

Indi and everyone in her world are fictional characters. Some elements are inspired by stories I’ve heard from friends over the years, but the narrative itself is entirely fabricated.
The remnants, however, are as historically accurate as possible. While the specific scenes and dialogue are dramatized, they are grounded in extensive research.

In the book, Indi experiences remnants: immersive visions of history as it really happened. Cut remnants are remnants that didn’t make it into the book. Not canon, but the stories are too good not to tell. You can find the cut remnants on the Timecode Extras page, or directly here.
